https://launchpad.net/locoremotesupport
The LoCoRST is an existing project to support end ubuntu linux users with a set of xmpp based tools. These allow supporters to fix user problems by either answering question over chat, or getting into the user machine via ssh reverse tunneling.

R1: Move the project from pyxmpp to xmpppy

Average rating:
(2)The project currently runs on pyxmpp, this has been deprecated in Ubuntu and so we need to move over to xmpppy 0.5.5 (currently at rc1) see doctormo's launchpad PPA for this version.

R2: Write Tests for Base package
by DoctorMO on 12 Apr 2009 18:16
Average rating:
(2)There are currently no python tests written for any of the packages. It's required that at least the base library have a set of tests that test all aspects of xmpp messaging and commands. This includes MUC (ChatRooms) and Presence Control.

R3: XMPP Commands

(2)Implement xmpp command class instead of current command over messaging. This should be a very simple requirement of changing the base incoming and outgoing methods that control commands.

- Tunnelling back
I really like the idea of having the supporter tunnel back to the problematic host. Is this covered in R3, or is it solely in R4?
by erigami on 13 Apr 2009 20:09
- Re: Tunnelling back
There is code to do it already and there are proof of concept bash scripts already in use by sys-admins I know. The work for R4 will be integration of that and will most likely be pushed once we have R1-3 done.
This'll allow a solid foundation with which to work on.by DoctorMO on 13 Apr 2009 20:18
- Client?
The original project is written in python. Which IM client does it target?
by erigami on 15 Apr 2009 15:54
- Re: Client?
It's in python, it uses the XMPP/Jabber protocol, but it doesn't target a typical IM client, it has it's own, because it's doing things via tickets and logging. The idea is that you never know it's IM.
